The Treatment Challenge

Production changes can introduce oils, solvents, salts, surfactants and refractory organics in different combinations. High or variable oxidation demand can compete with the target reaction, and some constituents may inhibit biological treatment.

How Ozone Helps

Industrial ozone treatment can transform susceptible dissolved contaminants and sometimes improve their suitability for downstream biological treatment. Oxidation is not the same as complete mineralisation, and it does not remove dissolved salts.

Equalised effluent is assessed before selecting oxygen feed, ozone generation and a gas-transfer arrangement. A mixed reactor or sidestream loop provides contact, with flow, pH and residual monitoring supported by analytical sampling. Collect and treat reactor off-gas.

System Integration

Oil separation, coagulation, clarification and biological stages may reduce upstream demand. The chosen ozone location depends on whether pretreatment or final polishing is needed; carbon treatment or membranes may address remaining constituents.

Engineering & Automation

ETP automation may link batch recipes or production status to the ozone PLC. HMI controls, pressure and temperature sensors, alarms, pump permissives and remote review options can be configured around the plant’s operating philosophy.

Important Design Considerations

Use actual effluent chemistry, flow, contaminant load and treatment targets to establish dose, contact time, transfer efficiency and performance. Bench or pilot testing should examine by-products, biodegradability and compatibility with downstream equipment.
