Ozone is not an appropriate routine air cleaner for occupied rooms. Any proposed ozone-based indoor treatment requires specialist assessment, an unoccupied controlled setting and a clear reason to prefer it over safer source-control methods.

The Treatment Challenge

Indoor air can contain particles, vapours and odours from furnishings, activities or moisture damage. These pollutants need different controls, and a persistent smell may indicate a source that requires removal rather than chemical treatment of the air.

How Ozone Helps

Ozone reacts selectively and may create irritating by-products or secondary particles. Concentrations compatible with health protection do not effectively remove many indoor contaminants; no general indoor purification or health benefit should be assumed.

Technical Treatment Approach

If a specialist assessment justifies an unoccupied process, feed gas and generation are matched to an isolated distribution plan. Mixing, contact and ozone readings must cover the space and adjacent leakage paths. Residual removal and measured clearance are required before re-entry.

System Integration

Ventilation, particle filtration and source removal are usually the starting points. Gas-phase adsorption may suit selected vapours. Ozone must not be discharged into occupied supply air or used as a replacement for resolving moisture and contamination sources.

Engineering & Automation

Where a controlled process is justified, PLC and HMI options can coordinate isolation and clearance. Access interlocks, ozone sensors, alarms and emergency stops take priority over convenience; remote commands cannot substitute for verified absence of occupants.

Important Design Considerations

Actual air composition, airflow, contaminant load and the specific treatment objective determine any proposed dose, contact time, distribution efficiency and performance assessment. Evaluate secondary pollutants and materials damage; absence of smell cannot demonstrate ozone clearance or acceptable indoor air quality.
