Drinking Water Treatment
Drinking-water treatment starts with understanding the source. Ozone can contribute oxidation and disinfection within a treatment train that also protects water quality after treatment.
Discuss Your ApplicationThe Treatment Challenge
Microorganisms, natural organic matter and taste or odour compounds can vary with source conditions. Clear-looking water is not necessarily microbiologically suitable, and distribution introduces a separate need for protection against recontamination.
How Ozone Helps
Ozone reacts with susceptible microorganisms and selected dissolved compounds. Drinking-water ozonation can support primary disinfection and taste or odour treatment, but does not provide a persistent distribution residual or remove every contaminant.
Process engineering
Technical Treatment Approach
Prepared oxygen feeds the ozone generator; an injector or diffuser transfers gas into a contactor. Mixing and effective contact time are assessed alongside flow, dissolved ozone and source chemistry. Captured off-gas passes through suitable ozone destruction equipment.
Key Benefits
- Supports a primary disinfection stage
- Can address selected taste and odour compounds
- Provides an oxidation step before downstream treatment
System Integration
Coagulation, clarification and filtration may precede or follow ozonation according to the source. Biological or activated-carbon filtration may address biodegradable oxidation products. Distribution disinfection is planned separately; RO or UV may serve other treatment goals.
Engineering & Automation
PLC and HMI options can coordinate water flow, ozone production, dissolved-ozone sensing and off-gas alarms. Low-flow and cooling interlocks may stop generation, while remote monitoring can support operator review without replacing local safeguards.
Available depending on system configuration and project requirements.
Important Design Considerations
Dose, contact time, transfer efficiency and treatment performance require actual water-quality, flow and contaminant-load data. Evaluate bromide-related bromate formation, pH, organic matter and downstream stability; validate against the intended drinking-water treatment goals.
